Signals of Hope

In mid 2020 the world's oldest literature festival the Frankfurter Buchmesse (Frankfurt Book Fair) approached me and my team to develop a totally online version of their famous book expo - the only prerequisite - it had to emit positivity to counter the populist and corona filled world it would take place within. Keeping that in mind I created a modern interpretation of the flags found within the ‘International Code of Signals’ which were initially intended to provide ways to communicate over long distances (note: social distancing) in situations where people in distress needed help. In a world of mixed signals and negative populist flag waving I thought the positive intention and use of the flags within the ‘International Code of Signals’ fit perfectly. We took the flag concept and extended it into the 360° campaign and 5 day virtual event ‘Signals of Hope’.

She's got the look!

Websites, posters, animations, billboards, film sets, T-Shirts, scarfs and even coffee mugs were created with the brand’s distinctive red, white and blue geometric forms. The Frankfurter Buchmesse literally ‘painted the town red’ with their new brand not only locally but all over the world... even Justin Trudeau & Jane Goodall made an appearance framed in the ‘Signal of Hope’ tricolour.
